Just as the infamous Daltons are being transferred to a Mexican prison, robbers attack the van and âkidnapâ the Daltons without realising it. Disappointed with their booty, they decide to hang the four brothers. In order to save their lives, brother Joe offers to share all his knowledge of organised crime with the leader of the bandits, Don Emilio. Meanwhile, the governor sends Lucky Luke to their rescue...

Mulligan’s Western circus—his troop, lion and elephant—arrive in town under the escort of Lucky Luke. Zilch, a rich businessman and organizer of the annual grand rodeo, thinks the circus is going to compete with his business and does everything to prevent it from putting on a show. At the funeral of old Baddy, everybody is moved except Ready, who has waited for the 100-year-old man’s death a long time in order to buy his ranch. Unfortunately, the old fellow has an heir, Waldo, a “tenderfoot” who arrives straight from his native England accompanied by his butler Jasper. Two worlds clash: the ancient, so refined, and the new, equally “rustic.”

Some strange burglaries take place at each performance of the play “The Dashing White Cowboy” given by the company of W. Baltimore. Simply coincidence? Suspicious, Lucky Luke follows them. Unfortunately, it’s he who is accused of theft in every city the actors pass through. After all, he’s also a stranger. But despite this series of arrests, Lucky Luke won’t let Baltimore and his troupe leave him behind, and he’ll clear his name...

The Daltons escape from a Texas jail and head up to Canada. Lucky Luke is called in to get them back to jail. He and Rintincan, his second faithful companion after Jolly Jumper, follow them all the way to Canada, where Captain Winston Pendergast offers his help.

The Senate decides to settle the fertile land of Wyoming. Before moving in the settlers, they send a committee of four scientists, led by Lucky Luke, to survey the territory. One senator is strongly opposed to this project and determined to sabotage the expedition. However, the Senate overlooked one important fact: the land territory is home to the Cheyenne Nation, who are determined to defend their land.

Patronimo’s Apache tribe is still waging war against the white settlers. The damage on both sides is getting heavier and heavier. Lucky Luke is called in to restore the peace between Patronimo’s tribe and Colonel O’Nollan. But, while negotiating with both sides, Lucky Luke is perceived as a traitor. Only a wild twist of fate will enable him to come out of this tricky situation unscathed.

Lucky Luke must get Billy the Kid to New Mexico so he can be tried and put in jail. They both set out on the road, Lucky Luke assisted by Rin Tin Can. But Bert Malloy has promised the Kid he would set him free…

Rin Tin Can, possibly the stupidest dog ever, is left in charge of watching the jail. Obviously, the Daltons escape and steal some horses and guns. Lucky Luke refuses to get involved, but when he witnesses the prison guards’ incompetence and Rin Tan Can’s remarkable lack of brains, he has no choice but to set out on the Daltons’ trail of holdups and burglaries.

On 22 April 1889, the American government opened the new Oklahoma territories to settlement. In this volume, Lucky Luke acts as a government agent and ensures that every candidate for settlement is treated fairly.
